Key Takeaways
Confido is powering Xchange Pay, a new payments experience built directly into Case Xchange’s referral management platform.
Referral fees can now move digitally: Firms can replace paper checks with electronic disbursements tied directly to the underlying case.
Payments stay connected to the referral: Firms get visibility from initial placement through fee calculation, payment, and reconciliation, with Confido powering the movement of money underneath the Case Xchange experience.

Case Xchange helps law firms manage and track attorney-to-attorney referrals, with more than 125,000 referrals already processed through the platform. With Xchange Pay, firms can now manage the payment side of those relationships in the same connected workflow.

Traditionally, referral fee payments can still end with a paper check, even when everything leading up to that payment is managed digitally. That creates a disconnect between the case, the referral relationship, and the money moving between firms.

Xchange Pay closes that gap.

Powered by Confido, Xchange Pay allows firms to send referral fees electronically, with each payment connected to the relevant case. Case Xchange remains the system of record for the referral, while Confido powers the secure movement of money behind the scenes.

That connection gives firms a clearer view of the entire referral lifecycle, from initial placement and resolution through fee calculation, payment, and reconciliation. It also reduces the manual work that comes with tracking checks and matching payments back to individual matters.

The goal is to make the payment as connected as the referral itself. Instead of receiving a check with little context and figuring out what it was for, firms can receive the referral fee with the case information attached. The integration also brings Confido’s legal-specific payments infrastructure into the workflow, including digital disbursements, automated trust routing, and audit capabilities designed around the requirements of law firms.

For us, Xchange Pay is another example of what embedded payments can look like in legal technology: money movement built directly into the software and workflows firms already use, rather than treated as a separate process.

We’re excited to work with the Case Xchange team to make referral payments faster, more connected, and easier to track from case placement through final payout.
