Civil Rights - Financially Legal

Episode 10: What is the role of civil rights attorneys in the fight to rectify civil injustice? An interview with Geri Green and Cynthia Chandler

Geri Green and Cynthia Chandler have been fighting for marginalized individuals both in and out of courts for decades. In this episode of Financially Legal we talk about how and why, according to the 2019 Clio Trends report, civil rights attorneys bill for so little of their work (20% - the lowest of any practice area) and collect so little of what they bill (80% - third lowest).

We also discuss the tremendous burden civil rights attorneys carry as they are often some of the only witnesses to the severe injustices marginalized people face in our justice system. We cover a soon-to-be-released documentary featuring Cynthia’s amazing work for women seeking justice against the California Department of Corrections.

Finally, we look at the intersection between the ongoing dialogue that many of us are having in the legal sector about access to justice and the protests about racial injustice we’ve all witnessed in the last few weeks.

We at Confido Legal are also pleased to announce an initiative to support those fighting for equality on the front lines. Confido Legal is offering $50,000 in free payment processing to 100 civil rights law firms to support their work and ease their financial stress.
